PREVIOUS PROJECT

SEI Live/Work Unit

Solar Energy Internation Campus, Paonia, Colorado.

The main focus of this project was sustainability.  The brown timber elements are recycled from closed mines in the region.  The building has a living trellis which provides shade in the summer while the light shelf reflects light into the building.  In the winter without the vines on the living trellis direct light is allow to enter the building.  The location of the building was determined so the prevailing wind would flow past an existing stream and provide natural cooling for the building in the summer.  Vegetation was planted in a location to block the winter winds.  The corner of the building can be opened to double the amount of space for living and working.
